At the last show I brought a hoodie and a shirt to get spray painted.

The hoodie was too dark, because all they had was black paint,
and the shirt was taken by somebody else.

So if anybody has one, could I buy it from you?

It's really not that hard. Just cut everything out from the stencil real well. And use spray adhesive.

It's fun as hell.

I dont know what to use?

Exacto knife and stencil material (which I'm guessing Michaels will have)?

maybe there should be a topic where people post print out-able stencils for the shirts.

I tried it earlier with a couple different stencils and it didn't come out good.

maybe there should be a topic where people post print out-able stencils for the shirts.

If someone did this it would be awsome.

anyone know how the btmi! crew does this at show? my band has tried to spray paint shirts before, with posterboard setncils. but it's hard not to smudge the shirt and the posterboard gets damp and ruined after like 2 sprays.

Stencils:

Jeff's BTMI stencil

Quote Unquote Records Logo:

Fuck around with them in photoshop if you want to change them, like I did to make the giant BTMiPod stencil I used for my shirt (below)

and I can't find the Jeff's face stencil that sneve made and pissed off Jeff and made him take down the
original stencil (I think)

---------------------
http://www.stencilrevolution.com/tutorials/tutorialsview.php?id=7 is a good tutorial as is http://www.stencilrevolution.com/tutorials/tutorialsview.php?id=2.

For materials, you need an exacto knife, roller, fabric paint, an old folder helps when cutting as cutting board and when painting as a backing inside the shirt.  Paper stencils work fine, there's really no drawback in quality, the only downside is that they aren't reusable, so if you don't anticipate making more than one, and the stencil isn't a pain in the ass, just use paper. Also, GET SOME SPRAY ADHESIVE.    It works wonders. You can get a can from michael's for around $4-5. It sprays on kind of liquidy, and turns into that sticky kind of stuff on post-it notes. It stays in place beautifully while painting, but comes off painlessly without any residue. It's really a godsend.  You should use some tape as well, but it really helps.

You'll have to do more than one coat, especially for dark shirts. After the first coat, it will look like crap, 2nd you can start to see it, decent quality, 3rd is almost good and 4 was perfect, in my experience. Yours may vary. Between coats, use a hair dryer, and make sure to heat seal everything with an iron at the end. It's easy and fun. I reccommend blatsing some BTMI! while doing it, keeps you in the mood.

Using what I said, I've manage to make this shirt on my first DIY effort:

I got lazy on the checkers part, that's why they have some bleeding. If I followed my own advice, they would have come out as good as the other parts. Sad

Also, when doing different parts with different colors, make sure not to paint over done areas, like I did in the corner of one of the crossbones D: wait nevermind you can't tell from that pic.

haha nice

to get that stencil did you use the tutorial on stencilrevolution, sneve? Using that method, I made a badass Not My President stencil with Jason Alexander from Seinfeld on it. "Not My President" shirts with random celebrities on them = instant win.
